Bethany Schmitt, known professionally as Buttress (aka The Buttress) is an American rapper. The New Jersey native’s music explores religious themes and radical feminism.
She has released two albums, Behind Every Great Man and ENDOFUNCTOR. Her most well-known song, Brutus, is a retelling of the assassination of Julius Caesar, from the perspective of a female Brutus. The followup song, Rex, explores the aftermath of Brutus’s actions and their effects on Rome.
Buttress also runs Phenomonology Club, a group dedicated to the study and discussion of phenomenology.
