“Just show up, ruin the fucking vibe, and then dip. Keep it Dirtcore.”
September 1st is Madd Maxxx‘s birthday, but instead of expecting gifts, the man decided it was all of us that deserved a present. That is exactly what his EP entitled Dirtcore 24 is; an absolute gift and cause for celebration for anyone who listens to it.
With production by underground veterans J Reno and Crossworm, the latter of which also handles all mixing and mastering, you’ll be hard pressed to find a project that sounds better than this one in the entire scene. Add what these two cooked up to Maxxx’s unparalleled lyricism and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be listening to this EP on repeat all day long.
“We ain’t going nowhere. I know I ain’t hit yet ’cause my shit is too underground, but I don’t care. I’m sick of all these rappers out here whinin’ saying ‘no fair.’ I’m cuttin’ through the waters of history like a corsair.”
Speaking of lyricism, I’ve listened to Dirtcore 24 in its entirety no less than a dozen times at this point, and with each subsequent listen, I hear new bars and rhymes that I missed previously that impress the hell out of me. This Massachusetts native really can’t be touched when it comes to what he is saying in his tracks. The fact that after 20 years in the underground, this original Infect soldier isn’t the topic of every single discussion about horrorcore, Juggalo-related music, or just hip hop in general is insane to me.
“M A double D, triple X, I’m sick of the typos. I love it when I’m sucking fat tits like lipo. All my cats act Stimpy, but my Rens are Kylo.”
Dirtcore 24 clocks in at just over 12 minutes, so whether you are already a fan of Madd Maxxx or have never heard a single song of his, you really have no excuse to not click play on this one. You can call it Sick Hop; You can call it Dirtcore; Whatever you call it, you have to respect the craft and the fact that after all this time, the man is still improving and giving fans music to be proud of, especially in a scene where it’s getting harder and harder to say that.
