Skotadistes stand as one of Greece’s most influential hardcore and horrorcore rap groups, known for their uncompromising sound and dark aesthetic.
The group’s origins trace back to 1993, when rappers Abbas and BLX formed Hoodlum Assassins, a project rooted in pure hardcore rap within the emerging Greek hip-hop scene. In 1995, the group evolved into WNAF (White Niggaz Are F*cking), marking the beginning of their studio recording era.
Before 1998, the group adopted the name Skotadistes (meaning “Obscurantists”), a title that fully captured their identity—defined by gritty rap vocals, heavy basslines, and dark, atmospheric samples.
In 1999, Skotadistes released a limited EP titled 93. After contributing to several Greek hip-hop compilations, they achieved a major milestone in 2008 with the release of their official debut album, Sanatorio (Sanitarium), through Atlantis Records. The album gained significant traction, becoming a best-selling CD in Greece’s major music retail chain, Metropolis, in 2009.
They followed up in 2012 with Mavri Mousiki (Black Music), released via Lyra Music. The album featured notable collaborations with artists such as Onyx and Rotting Christ, further solidifying their reputation and helping establish hardcore rap as a recognized force within the Greek music scene.
In 2025, the group returns with new work, a new record label, and brand-new songs featuring a renewed style and sound that essentially marries the old with the new. The sharp socio-political lyrics and angry rhymes, combined with refreshed musical production and an aggressive style, make The Great Reset perhaps the only truly “strong” album with a purely hardcore/dark aesthetic—standing out amid the current trend of ringtone-style, superficial trap songs in the Greek hip-hop landscape.
Skotadistes remain consistent in their commitment to their fans, both at home and overseas. This continues with the participation and support of top rappers—legends in their own right—from abroad. These include Timbo King (Royal Fam) from the United States, a well-known member of the Wu-Tang Clan affiliates and collaborator with French rap legends IAM; as well as Blaq Poet from Screwball, a major group from Queens, New York, also known for collaborations with renowned DJ/producer DJ Premier (Gang Starr).
From England, Skotadistes are allied with Gunshot, arguably one of the most influential groups of all time in the UK, credited with helping establish British hip-hop in the 1990s. From France, they collaborate with rappers Daddy Jokno and Jaeyez of the legendary group Afro Jazz, known for their work with Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan.
This album stands as a tribute to true hardcore hip-hop—redefining and restoring the Greek hip-hop landscape—with two powerful DJs supporting their incendiary rhymes: DJ Equinox and DJ Skilz.
